School holidays and working from home - is it possible?

Where did the last 12 months disappear to?
Whether you work full time, part time, work from home or go to an office it doesn’t make any difference, the logistical nightmare that comes with the kids having 6 weeks off school is stressful no matter what your usual day is like.
I have an 8 year old son and he has been shipped off here there and everywhere so far this school holidays, sports camps, grandparents and a few days with myself and his Dad, without the support of family we would be screwed!
But how do you manage to work from home and actually tick things off your to do lists? Well like everything else it is about being organised, BUT more importantly, it is about being strict and transparent, I think this is the only way that you will get anything done and get to the end of the holidays with your sanity in tact!
Put up a detailed chart that shows what and when things are happening.
Set specific times of the day where you get an hour to just do some work
Get up at your usual time - you might get an hour before the rest of the house wakes up - bonus
Give the kids chores to do whilst you work - that way the little jobs around the house that soon mount up get done too - obviously age appropriate jobs!
Set a midday time limit and then go out and do something fun with the kids - go to the park with a picnic, go for a bike ride or a museum but get out of the house for a while.
If your kids are anything like mine they want to stay up late as there is no school tomorrow - well set limits around this too so you get a balance between the kids being up late but you getting that last bit ticked off the days to do list. We tend to say that on a normal week day that as long as they are in their bedrooms being quiet by 8pm then it is okay for them to read books or play with toys and occasionally the ipad.
And remember all the holiday clubs do half days that make the cost much more bearable so you get to work in peace occasionally too!
Unfortunately there is an end to them being kids and being under your feet so try and enjoy it a little whilst they are still young enough to want to spend time with you too. Those few hours of working in the morning will soon be forgotten but the afternoon of having your undivided attention and spending quality family time together creating memories last a lifetime.
I would love to hear any tips you all have in the comments section below
